Accessibility

Will materials be available after the event?

Yes, full-group sessions of the workshop will be recorded, edited, and shared on this website following the workshop. We will also share workshop materials so that the workshop can be completed fully asynchronously following the event.

What accommodations are available for accessibility needs?

Food: Lunch and refreshments will be provided daily for in-person participants. We collected information on dietary needs during the application, but if you have new needs or want to confirm, please contact Hala Sun at sunhala@msu.edu. A Starbucks is located in the MSU Library building, and several restaurants are on Grand River within a 0.5 mile walk.

Physical Space: The workshops will take place on the second floor of the MSU library (W207), which has accessible parking, entrances, bathrooms, and an elevator. Breakout rooms will be available throughout the day for small group work or for decompression spaces as needed.

Auditory: Full-group sessions will feature live Zoom captioning for in-person and online participants, and speakers will use microphones. If you will be attending in-person and require additional captioning or auditory access for breakout group work, please alert the workshop organizers.

Caregiving and Lactation: If you need information about locally available drop-in childcare centers, please contact Caitlin Kirby at kirbycai@msu.edu. A lactation room is available in the MSU library.

FAQ

In-Person Participation

Where is the workshop located?

The workshop is in MSU’s Main Library in the Center for Teaching and Learning, Room W207.

Virtual Participation

Can I attend only select virtual sessions?

We ask that participants in the virtual workshop commit to attending to the full workshop, and have designed it to be interactive for our virtual participants. If you are unable to attend the full workshop virtually, consider canceling your registration and engaging with our asynchronous materials after the workshop.

What platforms will be used for virtual attendance?

Virtual participants will join via Zoom, and we will use Google Drive, Docs, and Sheets to share materials and engage in collaborative work.

How will virtual participants be involved in the workshop?

Our team will have a dedicated virtual liaison to ensure that virtual participants are active members of the workshop during full-group events. Virtual participants will be able to see and hear the workshop speakers and participants, and will be able to be seen and heard by in-person participants. We will also share any comments or questions from the chat to the full group. Virtual participants will have rotating facilitators in their breakout groups during small group work.

Travel

I qualified for a travel stipend. How will I receive it?

We are working with our travel office and participants who received travel stipends to coordinate flights, and have booked hotel rooms from June 9-12 at Hyatt House.

I am planning my own travel. Where should I plan to stay?

There are many hotels in the East Lansing area. The workshop will take place at the MSU Main Library for planning your hotel location.

How can I travel between the hotel and the library?

Parking is very limited near the Main Library, so we recommend using a ride share service or local bus (CATA ; bus #1) that can take you from the Michigan Flyer bus stop to the hotel (see map; the cost is $1.25 one way fare). You can pay in cash or you can download the bus app in advance, where you will be able to access mobile pay

How can I travel between the airport and campus?

If flying into DTW, we recommend the Michigan Flyer, a bus that makes multiple trips per day between the airport and East Lansing. If flying into Lansing, popular ride share apps and taxis are available to transport you to your hotel.

Stipends

I qualified for an additional $300 stipend. When and how will I receive it?

A check will be mailed to you after the conclusion of the workshop.

I qualified for a travel stipend. How will I receive it?

Travel stipends will also be received at the conclusion of the workshop. Please keep your receipts for ground transportation, flights, and hotel if you use a hotel other than the conference hotel. Per diem will be provided based on the federal rates.

Community Building

How will workshop participants interact with one another?

Participants will engage in small group work on each day of the conference. Groups will be separated by modality (in-person participants will work together, and virtual participants will work together).

We will have some time dedicated to sharing out workshop progress and networking on the final afternoon of the conference for in-person and virtual participants. We are also planning an optional networking event for in-person participants on the evening of June 11.
